Matawalle Reveals Tinubu’s 2025 Deadline for Ending Banditry in Nigeria
President Bola Tinubu has directed the Nigerian military to eradicate banditry by the end of 2025. Minister of State for Defence, Bello Mohammed Matawalle, announced this directive during a meeting with All Progressives Congress (APC) members at his residence in Gusau, Zamfara State.
Matawalle emphasized the federal government’s commitment to this goal, highlighting the procurement of advanced military equipment, including Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs) and warplanes, to strengthen the fight against banditry in the North-West region. He noted that some of these assets have already arrived in the country.
The Minister also expressed concern over the role of informants within local communities who aid bandits, describing this as a significant obstacle in combating insecurity.
He urged citizens to support the government’s efforts, regardless of political affiliations, and to collaborate in addressing the security challenges facing the nation.
This directive underscores President Tinubu’s determination to enhance national security and restore peace, particularly in regions severely affected by banditry.
The administration calls for collective action and vigilance from all Nigerians to achieve this objective.
