New York Police Chief Jeffrey Maddrey Resignation: Allegations of Sexual Misconduct
Jeffrey Maddrey, the Chief of Department for the New York Police Department (NYPD), has resigned following serious allegations of sexual misconduct. Lieutenant Quathisha Epps, a subordinate officer, accused Maddrey of coercing her into performing sexual acts in exchange for favorable overtime assignments.
Epps filed a complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, detailing incidents from June 2023 to December 2024, including claims of retaliation after she rejected Maddrey’s advances.
In response to these allegations, the NYPD has initiated a thorough investigation. Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch accepted Maddrey’s resignation, effective immediately, and emphasized the department’s commitment to addressing all allegations of sexual misconduct seriously.
Following Maddrey’s departure, John Chell has been appointed as the interim Chief of Department. Additionally, the head of the Internal Affairs Bureau, Miguel Iglesias, was removed from his position amid the unfolding scandal, with Edward Thompson stepping in as his interim replacement.
These developments have prompted a broader review of departmental practices and leadership, underscoring the NYPD’s commitment to maintaining integrity and accountability within its ranks.
