Breaking News: Corps Member Abducted by Suspected Kidnappers in Ekiti
A National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member has been abducted in Ekiti State, Nigeria. The incident occurred on December 22, 2024, when the corps member was traveling along the Ifon/Owo road. The kidnappers have reportedly demanded a ransom of N15 million for the release of the victim.
This abduction is part of a troubling pattern of kidnappings in Ekiti State. Earlier in the year, on January 29, 2024, gunmen abducted five pupils and four staff members from Apostolic Faith Primary and Secondary School in Emure-Ekiti. The kidnappers demanded a ransom of N100 million, later reducing it to N15 million.
In response to these incidents, the Ekiti State Police Command has intensified efforts to combat kidnapping and other criminal activities. Recently, the police arrested three individuals in connection with the kidnapping of the state All Progressives Congress Chairman, Mr. Paul Omotoso.
The NYSC has also been proactive in addressing the safety of its members. Following the abduction of corps members in Ondo State, the NYSC clarified that no corps member was killed during the incident.
