Ransom Threats Foiled: Anambra Police Capture Suspect Demanding N1.2 Million
The Anambra State Police Command has arrested 32-year-old Chukwuma Obi from Umuagu Village, Igboukwu, Aguata Local Government Area, for allegedly attempting to extort N1.2 million from a resident through kidnapping threats.
Obi reportedly posed as a member of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and sent threatening messages to the victim, demanding the ransom be paid into a specified account.
Following the victim’s report, the police arrested Obi on December 24, 2024, with the N1.2 million in his possession.
During interrogation, Obi confessed to the crime and is assisting the police in identifying and apprehending other members of the gang involved in similar activities.
The Commissioner of Police, Nnaghe Itam, emphasized the command’s commitment to thoroughly investigating such cases to ensure justice and prevent further criminal activities.
