Court Demands DSS to Release or Arraign Miyetti Allah President: What Happens Next?
A Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court in Abuja has ordered the Department of State Services (DSS) to either release or formally arraign Alhaji Bello Bodejo, the detained President of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore.
Justice Mohammed Zubairu issued this directive following an ex parte motion filed by Bodejo’s counsel, Reuben Atabo.
The court emphasized that while security agencies have the authority to prevent crime, such powers must align with constitutional provisions, which mandate that suspects be presented before a court within 24 to 48 hours of arrest.
Bodejo was reportedly arrested on December 9, 2024, by officers of the Nigerian Army’s 117 Battalion in Maliya, Nasarawa State, following a dispute involving herders and a retired army general.
His continued detention without arraignment prompted legal action challenging its legality.
The court has scheduled a hearing for December 30, 2024, to further address the matter. In the interim, the DSS has been instructed to either produce Bodejo in court or grant him administrative bail.
