Tragedy in Herald Square: Cab Incident Injures Multiple Pedestrians on Christmas
On Christmas Day, December 25, 2024, a yellow taxi cab jumped the curb near Macy’s department store in New York City’s Herald Square, striking multiple pedestrians.
The incident occurred around 4 p.m. at the intersection of West 34th Street and Sixth Avenue. Preliminary reports suggest the 58-year-old driver may have experienced a medical episode leading to the crash.
Among the injured were a 9-year-old boy and his mother, who were pinned under the vehicle. Bystanders quickly intervened, lifting the taxi to free them. In total, six pedestrians were injured, including five women aged 19, 37, 41, and two aged 49.
Three victims were transported to local hospitals, while the others declined medical attention. Fortunately, all injuries were reported as non-life-threatening.
The New York Police Department is investigating the incident, which is currently considered accidental. No arrests or charges have been made.
