22 Injured in Gombe as Bus Crashes into Celebration: Updates & Details
On December 25, 2024, a tragic incident occurred in Tumfure community near Gombe, where a commercial bus lost control and crashed into a Christmas procession, resulting in multiple injuries. The Gombe State Police Command reported that 22 individuals were injured in the accident.
The procession, escorted by police, was en route to the Emir’s Palace and Government House when the bus, loaded with bags of rice, veered into the crowd. The driver fled the scene and remains unidentified. In response, an irate mob set the vehicle ablaze.
While police reports confirm 22 injuries, the procession leader, Shamsuddeen Kachalla, a member of the Boys’ Brigade in Gombe, indicated that the number of injured could be as high as 40, with victims receiving treatment at the Federal Teaching Hospital and Specialist Hospital in Gombe.
Gombe State Governor Inuwa Yahaya has expressed his condolences to the victims and urged the community to remain calm during this challenging time.
