Kwara Hunters Save the Day: Kidnapped Wedding Guests Rescued
Local hunters and vigilantes in Kwara State have successfully rescued five wedding guests who were abducted by gunmen near Obbo-Ayegunle in Ekiti Local Government Area. The victims, all from Odo-Owa community, were returning from a wedding ceremony in Kogi State when they were kidnapped on December 21, 2024.
The abductees included Oloye Oyewole Abolarin, the head of hunters in Odo-Owa, his wife Funmilayo Abolarin, Tunde Oladipo and his wife, and another woman identified as Bose. The kidnappers had demanded a ransom of ₦100 million for their release.
On December 25, 2024, local hunters and vigilantes conducted a successful operation that led to the rescue of the five victims.
Reports indicate that eight other captives were also freed during the operation. The rescued individuals are currently receiving medical treatment, and the Chairman of Oke-Ero Local Government Area has visited them in the hospital.
Efforts to reach the spokesperson of the Kwara State Police Command for further comments have been unsuccessful. The community has expressed relief over the rescue and continues to urge security agencies to enhance measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
