Ogun Police Deny Charges of Demanding N40k to Track Phone in Child Kidnapping Case
The Ogun State Police Command has refuted allegations that its officers demanded ₦40,000 to track the phone of a suspect involved in the kidnapping of a seven-year-old girl, Mercy Akande, in Sango, Ogun State.
In an official statement, the Command described the reports as misleading and emphasized that such demands are against police policy.
The incident in question involved a customer who allegedly abducted the daughter of a Point-of-Sale (PoS) operator.
Reports had surfaced claiming that the victim’s family was asked to pay ₦10,000 to file a report and an additional ₦30,000 to facilitate the tracking of the suspect’s phone number.
The Police Command has assured the public that it is conducting a thorough investigation into both the kidnapping and the allegations of extortion. They have reiterated their commitment to ensuring justice and maintaining public trust.
