Ogun State Outrage: PoS Operator’s Daughter Kidnapped by Customer
A seven-year-old girl, Mercy Akande, was reportedly kidnapped on December 23, 2024, in the Sango Ota area of Ogun State. The suspect, a regular customer at her mother’s Point of Sale (PoS) shop, had previously built a rapport with Mercy by buying her food and giving her money. On the day of the incident, he sent her to purchase sachet water; upon her return, both he and Mercy were nowhere to be found.
The family reported the case to the local police station, where they were allegedly asked to pay ₦10,000 to file the report and an additional ₦30,000 to track the suspect’s phone number. This demand has raised concerns about police practices in such sensitive cases.
The Ogun State Police Command has stated that they are actively investigating the matter. Force Public Relations Officer Olumuyiwa Adejobi condemned the alleged demands for money, describing them as “inhuman and unprofessional,” and has offered to personally oversee the case.
As of now, Mercy’s whereabouts remain unknown. The family and authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward to assist in her safe return.
