Benue Christmas Day Attack: 11 Dead in Suspected Herdsmen Violence
On December 25, 2024, suspected armed herders attacked several communities in the Mkomon district of Turan, Kwande Local Government Area in Benue State, resulting in the deaths of at least 11 residents.
The affected communities include Ityuluv, Tse Azege, and Innyievya. According to sources, the attackers struck while residents were celebrating Christmas, causing widespread panic and sorrow.
Iorbee Ihagh, President-General of the Tiv socio-cultural group Mdzough U Tiv Worldwide, confirmed the incident, stating, “Eleven people were killed in the Christmas Day attack on Mkomon district of Turan in Kwande LGA. Some are still missing as I speak to you now.”
The attack has intensified concerns about the safety of residents in the region, especially during festive periods. Local leaders have called for increased security measures to protect communities from such attacks.
