Condolence Message: Shettima Addresses Sokoto Government After Airstrike Tragedy
Vice President Kashim Shettima has extended deep condolences to the government and people of Sokoto State following a tragic incident on December 25, 2024, where a Nigerian military airstrike targeting the Lakurawa terrorist group inadvertently resulted in civilian casualties in Gidan Sama and Rumtuwa communities in Silame Local Government Area.
Expressing profound regret, Vice President Shettima stated, “I must say we are sorry and dismayed at the civilian casualties incurred and the excruciating pain that ensues in these extremely difficult times.”
He emphasized the federal government’s commitment to eradicating terrorism and called for enhanced cooperation from local communities to provide accurate information, ensuring precision in military operations. Shettima noted, “Security is not one man’s business. Together, we will surely make a difference as a people.”
The Vice President also assured that President Bola Tinubu’s administration is determined to eliminate all forms of terror in the country, stating, “Let me assure you that the administration of President Bola Tinubu is hell-bent on weeding out what is left of terror elements in the country.”
This incident has prompted calls for thorough investigations and measures to prevent future occurrences, with human rights organizations urging the Nigerian military to review its operational procedures to avoid civilian harm.
