Atiku Criticizes Military Honors Awarded to Seyi Tinubu: A Controversial Decision
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has expressed strong disapproval over a recent incident involving Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu. A viral video shows Seyi Tinubu receiving military honors from a group identified as the “Nigeria Cadet Network,” which Atiku describes as a gross violation of military traditions.
In a statement released by his media adviser, Paul Ibe, Atiku emphasized that formal military parades are traditionally reserved for designated public officials and that extending such honors to a private citizen undermines the sanctity of the Armed Forces.
He further questioned the legitimacy of the “Nigeria Cadet Network,” noting that it is not a recognized entity within the Nigerian Armed Forces.
Atiku also raised concerns about the apparent use of firearms by civilians during the parade, especially given the current challenges of illegal arms proliferation in the country.
He has called for an urgent investigation by relevant security agencies to address the legitimacy of the group, the origin and legality of the firearms displayed, and the propriety of the military honors granted to the President’s son.
