Car Theft Consequences: Ogun Mechanic Faces Six Years in Prison

On December 30, 2024, a Magistrate Court in Ijebu Imusin, Ogun State, sentenced 27-year-old mechanic Abiodun Ajao to six years in prison for stealing a customer’s car.

Ajao, based in Lagos, was entrusted with a customer’s Honda Accord for repairs. Instead of completing the work, he drove the vehicle to Idona, Ijebu Imusin, Ogun State, where he began dismantling it to sell the parts.

He was apprehended by operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) while disassembling the car.

Upon arrest, Ajao confessed to the crime and pleaded guilty to three charges: stealing, conversion, and malicious damage, violating Sections 390, 434, and 451 of the Ogun State Criminal Code Laws, respectively.

The court sentenced him to two years for each count, to be served consecutively, totaling six years.
