Tragic Incident in Anambra: Gunmen Kill Seven in Brutal Assault
On December 30, 2024, at approximately 11:20 a.m., unidentified gunmen launched an attack in Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State, resulting in the deaths of seven individuals, including five security operatives and two unarmed civilians.
The assailants began firing sporadically at a venue where preparations were underway for a burial ceremony scheduled for January 2, 2025.
During their escape, they also targeted a security observation post near the local government headquarters along the express road.
The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, Nnaghe Obono Itam, visited the scene and has ordered an immediate manhunt for the perpetrators.
He extended his condolences to the families and friends of the victims and assured the public that efforts are underway to apprehend those responsible.
This incident is part of a broader pattern of deteriorating security in Nigeria’s South-East region, which has experienced frequent attacks targeting security agencies, government officials, and civilians.
