2024 Update: N409 Million Seized from Kidnappers and Robbers by FCT Police

In 2024, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command achieved significant milestones in combating crime within Abuja and its environs. According to a report released on January 1, 2025, the command recovered a total of ₦409,992,000 from various criminal activities, including kidnapping, armed robbery, burglary, and fraud.

Breakdown of Recovered Funds:

  • Kidnapping: ₦36,850,000
  • Armed Robbery: ₦68,552,000
  • Burglary: ₦19,590,000
  • Fraud: ₦285,000,000

Throughout the year, the command handled 1,426 reported cases, leading to the arrest of 1,077 suspects involved in various crimes:

  • Kidnapping: 104 cases; 216 suspects arrested
  • Armed Robbery: 268 cases; 132 suspects arrested
  • “One-Chance” Robbery: 263 cases; 71 suspects arrested
  • Cybercrime: 32 cases; 15 suspects arrested
  • Homicide: 68 cases; 78 suspects arrested
  • Burglary: 73 cases; 20 suspects arrested
  • Fraud: 385 cases; 422 suspects arrested
  • Cultism: 38 cases; 59 suspects arrested
  • Car Theft: 127 cases; 64 suspects arrested

In addition to financial recoveries, the command seized 376 firearms, including 13 AK-47 magazines and 187 rounds of live ammunition. They also recovered 73 vehicles from car theft cases, 24 from “one-chance” robbery cases, and 2 from cultism-related incidents.

Tragically, the report noted that 140 police officers lost their lives in the line of duty during the year. Despite these losses, the command’s efforts resulted in a 15.1% reduction in crime incidents within the FCT between 2023 and 2024.

Looking ahead to 2025, the FCT Police Command plans to intensify community policing engagements, intelligence-led strategies, targeted clearance operations, and public enlightenment initiatives to address evolving security challenges in the region.
