Bello Turji: From Wanted Terrorist Commander to ‘Dead Man Walking’

The Nigerian Defence Headquarters has labeled notorious bandit leader Bello Turji as a “dead man walking,” following his recent threats against military forces and communities in Zamfara State.

In a viral video, Turji accused the military of targeting elderly individuals and demanded the release of his detained associate, Baka Wurgi.

He threatened to unleash terror on Zamfara residents in 2025 if his demands were not met.

Responding to these threats during an end-of-year briefing in Abuja, Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, dismissed Turji’s statements as empty rhetoric.

He emphasized that Turji would meet the same fate as previous terrorist commanders who have been neutralized by security forces.

Buba stated, “Indeed, Bello Turji is merely a dead man walking. It would be insulting to try to join issues and words with a terrorist. Before him, there were other terrorists who boasted that they would deal with security forces. Today they have all been taken out.”

The Defence Headquarters reiterated its commitment to eliminating all terrorist leaders and commanders, ensuring that individuals like Turji will not live beyond 2025.

Buba added, “We will do the same with other terrorist leaders like him… I assure you that those of them that are leaders today, commanders or whatever they call themselves, just watch out.

We have buried them on the battlefield, because that is their fate in 2025. They are dead men walking.”
