Freedom for Kidnapped Retired Anglican Archbishop After 25 Days
Retired Anglican Archbishop of the Niger Province and former Bishop of Nnewi Diocese, Most Rev. Prof. Godwin Okpala, and his driver have been released after 25 days in captivity.
They were abducted on December 7, 2024, while traveling to Umuchu in Anambra State.
The circumstances of their release remain unclear, including whether a ransom was paid. Archbishop Okpala confirmed his freedom with a brief post on his Facebook page, writing, “Praise the Lord!”
The abduction had raised significant concern within the Anglican Communion and the broader community. The news of their release has been met with widespread relief and gratitude.
