Remembering Jocelyn Wildenstein: The Life and Legacy of the Iconic ‘Catwoman’ Socialite
Jocelyn Wildenstein, the Swiss-born socialite renowned for her extensive cosmetic surgeries that led to her nickname “Catwoman,” passed away at the age of 84 on December 31, 2024, in Paris.
Born Jocelyne Périsset on August 5, 1940, in Lausanne, Switzerland, she became a prominent figure in New York’s social scene after marrying billionaire art dealer Alec Wildenstein in 1978. The couple had two children, Diane and Alec Jr.
Their highly publicized divorce in 1999 resulted in Jocelyn receiving a substantial settlement, reportedly $2.5 billion, making it one of the most expensive divorces at the time.
Wildenstein’s distinctive appearance, characterized by feline-like features, was the result of numerous cosmetic procedures. She reportedly underwent these surgeries to please her then-husband, who had an affinity for big cats.
Despite widespread media speculation, she often denied having excessive plastic surgery, attributing her looks to her Swiss heritage.
In her later years, Wildenstein faced financial difficulties, filing for bankruptcy in 2018. She had been in a long-term relationship with fashion designer Lloyd Klein since 2003; the couple became engaged in 2017.
Klein confirmed her passing, stating that she died peacefully in her sleep due to a pulmonary embolism.
Wildenstein’s life was marked by her extravagant lifestyle, high-profile relationships, and the media’s fascination with her dramatic physical transformation. She is survived by her two children and her partner, Lloyd Klein.
