Inside the Mind of the New Orleans Attacker: Plans of Violence and Extremism
On January 1, 2025, Shamsud-Din Jabbar, a 42-year-old U.S. Army veteran from Texas, carried out a deadly attack in New Orleans, Louisiana. Driving a rented Ford F-150 pickup truck, he rammed into a crowd on Bourbon Street, resulting in 15 fatalities, including his own, and at least 35 injuries.
Prior to the attack, Jabbar posted several disturbing videos on Facebook, pledging allegiance to ISIS and expressing intentions to kill his family. These recordings were shared less than 15 minutes before the attack.
Investigations revealed that Jabbar had placed improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in the French Quarter before the attack. He was found with a remote detonator connected to these explosives.
The FBI has confirmed that Jabbar acted alone and has no known links to other terrorist activities.
