Safety First: Lessons from Electrician’s Electrocution in Lagos
On January 2, 2025, a tragic incident occurred in the Magodo area of Lagos State when an electrician, identified as Sheni, was electrocuted while performing wiring repairs at the UNILAG Estate. The incident took place around 5:00 PM when power was unexpectedly restored during his work on an electric pole, leading to his electrocution.
Residents had called upon Sheni to address a power outage in the area. While he was working on the electric pole, electricity was restored, resulting in his electrocution.
Eyewitnesses described how Sheni became unresponsive and began to dangle on the pole. Despite efforts to save him, emergency responders later confirmed his death at the scene.
The tragic event was promptly reported to the police, who, along with fire service personnel and the Lagos State Ambulance Services, responded to the situation.
Investigations are ongoing to determine the exact circumstances leading to Sheni’s death, and efforts are being made to contact his family.
