Kebbi Crisis: Lakurawa Bandits Claim Lives of Two Police Officers
On January 3, 2025, two police officers in Kebbi State were tragically killed during a gun battle with suspected Lakurawa bandits.
The incident occurred at Alhaji Lawal Block Farm and nearby Fulani settlements in Natsini village, along the Argungu/Kangiwa road.
The assailants, believed to be members of the Lakurawa sect, invaded the area and rustled an unspecified number of cows.
In response, a team from the Police Safer Highway patrol engaged the bandits in a fierce gun duel, forcing them to flee into the forest with gunshot wounds.
The police successfully recovered some of the stolen cattle. Regrettably, two officers lost their lives during the encounter.
The Commissioner of Police, Bello Sani, condemned the incident and prayed for the souls of the deceased officers to have eternal rest.
He also conducted an on-the-spot assessment of the scene and visited the Emir of Argungu, Alhaji Sama’ila Mera, to brief him on the efforts of combined security agencies toward combating crimes in the area.
Lakurawa is an emerging terrorist group operating between Sokoto and Kebbi states in Nigeria. They are known for carrying out attacks, cattle rustling, and other criminal activities.
