One-Day-Old Baby Rescued by FCT Police: Uncover the Heartwarming Rescue
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has rescued a one-day-old baby abandoned along a bush path near Crush Rock, behind an uncompleted Red Bricks Market in Mpape, Abuja.
On January 3, 2025, around 10:00 a.m., officers from the Mpape Division’s Juvenile and Women Care Section responded to a distress call and found the infant wrapped in cloth. The baby was immediately taken to Mpape Primary Health Care Centre, where medical evaluations confirmed a stable condition.
Following a tip-off from the community, the baby’s mother, Khadija Ali, was apprehended. During interrogation, she confessed to abandoning the child, citing her inability to care for the baby after her husband’s abandonment.
The FCT Police Command has expressed strong condemnation of this act of child abandonment and reaffirmed its commitment to protecting vulnerable members of society. The rescued baby will be handed over to the Department of Social Welfare for proper care. Ms. Ali is expected to face prosecution under Sections 14 and 16 of the Child Rights Act, 2003, upon the conclusion of investigations.
The police have urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities or emergencies to the command through its emergency lines: 08061581938, 08032003913, 08028940883, CRU: 08107314192, PCB: 09022222352.
