Breaking News: Lagos’s Famous Fabric Merchant Arrested in Drug Trafficking Sweep

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a prominent Lagos socialite and fabric merchant, Alhaja Aishat Feyisara Ajoke Elediye, popularly known as ‘Iya Ruka’, for her alleged involvement in drug trafficking.

The 61-year-old suspect was apprehended on January 1, 2025, at her residence in the Okota area of Lagos. Her arrest followed the interception of a truck driven by her employee, 41-year-old Abideen Adio, which was found carrying 1,540 kilograms of imported cannabis concealed in 44 jumbo sacks.

Alhaja Elediye, publicly known as a fabric and shoe importer, had been on the NDLEA’s wanted list for leading a drug cartel operating out of Mushin, Lagos. Her arrest is part of the agency’s ongoing efforts to dismantle drug trafficking networks in the country.

In a related development, NDLEA operatives in Kwara State arrested two individuals, a 24-year-old graduate and a 20-year-old University of Ilorin student, for producing and distributing drug-laced cupcakes.

Additionally, the agency’s MMIA Strategic Command rearrested ex-convict Sodade Sunday Eniola for passport racketeering, uncovering a syndicate involved in concealing passports in shipments bound for various countries.
