Drug Trafficking Scandal: Prominent Nollywood Director Caught
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested Emeka Emmanuel Mbadiwe, a US-trained filmmaker active in both Hollywood and Nollywood, on charges of drug trafficking. Mbadiwe, who is also known as a motivational speaker, was apprehended on December 27, 2024, at a hotel in Lekki, Lagos.
The arrest followed the earlier detention of his associate, Uzoekwe Ugochukwu James, at a warehouse in Ajao Estate, Ikeja. James was found in possession of 33 parcels of “Loud,” a potent strain of cannabis weighing 17.30 kilograms.
The shipment had arrived at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos from the United States on December 24, 2024, concealed within large wooden boxes.
This operation is part of a broader crackdown by the NDLEA on drug trafficking networks across Nigeria. In related actions, the agency arrested a 61-year-old Lagos socialite, Alhaja Aishat Feyisara Ajoke Elediye, known as ‘Iya Ruka,’ for leading a drug cartel in the Mushin area of Lagos.
Additionally, an ex-convict, Sodade Sunday Eniola, was re-arrested for involvement in passport smuggling, highlighting the agency’s commitment to combating various facets of organized crime.
