Reflecting on the Life of the World’s Oldest Person Who Died at 116
Tomiko Itooka, recognized by Guinness World Records as the world’s oldest living person, passed away on December 29, 2024, at the age of 116.
Born on May 23, 1908, in Osaka, Japan, Itooka managed her family’s textile business during World War II and later pursued hiking, even summiting Mount Ontake twice in her 70s.
She attributed her longevity to a diet that included bananas and the Japanese yogurt-flavored drink Calpis.
Following her passing, 116-year-old Inah Canabarro Lucas, a Brazilian nun, is now recognized as the world’s oldest living person.
