El-Rufai Clarifies Allegiance: No Plans to Leave APC for PDP

Political Loyalty: El-Rufai’s Stance on Remaining with APC

Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has refuted claims that he has defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

In a statement posted on his verified X (formerly Twitter) account on January 6, 2025, El-Rufai labeled the rumors as “patent lies” and urged the public to disregard them. He also mentioned that he has instructed his lawyers to take action against those spreading the misinformation.

El-Rufai, a founding member of the APC, served as the Governor of Kaduna State from 2015 to 2023. Prior to that, he was the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory from 2003 to 2007 under the PDP administration.

In July 2023, President Bola Tinubu nominated him for a ministerial position; however, his confirmation was withheld due to a negative security report from the State Security Service (SSS), and he was eventually not appointed.

Speculations about his political allegiance intensified following recent social media activity perceived as critical of the current administration. El-Rufai’s denial aims to quell these rumors and reaffirm his commitment to the APC.
