Nigerian Leader Tinubu to Witness John Mahama’s Swearing-In Ceremony in Ghana
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is scheduled to depart Abuja today, January 6, 2025, for Accra, Ghana, to attend the inauguration of President-elect John Dramani Mahama on January 7.
Mahama, who previously served as Ghana’s 12th president from 2011 to 2017, was re-elected in December 2024, succeeding President Nana Akufo-Addo.
President Tinubu’s attendance follows an invitation from Mahama, who visited the Nigerian leader in December. The two share a longstanding personal relationship, reflecting the strong bilateral ties between Nigeria and Ghana.
As the Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, President Tinubu will join other African leaders at the ceremony.
He will be accompanied by the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Mrs. Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, and other senior government officials.
This visit underscores the importance of regional cooperation and the commitment to strengthening diplomatic relations within West Africa.
