Family Feud Turns Fatal: Police Detain Father and Son in Imo Over Alleged Kinsman’s Murder
In Imo State, Nigeria, a father and son have been arrested for the alleged murder of their kinsman, Chima Okafor. The incident occurred on January 1, 2025, in the Nnebugwu autonomous community of Oguta Local Government Area.
According to reports, Chima Okafor, aged 35, was attending a crossover night church service when he was accused by his relatives, Obinna Obiekea (also known as Losky) and his family, of stealing a pair of jeans valued at N25,000. The family members allegedly dragged Okafor from the church, assaulted him with weapons, and set him on fire. He was later rescued and taken to a hospital in Mgbele, Oguta, where he succumbed to his injuries the same day.
The victim’s father, Mr. Uche Okafor, has appealed to authorities, including Governor Hope Uzodimma and President Bola Tinubu, to ensure justice is served in the matter. He stated that while Obinna and his son Chidubem are in police custody, Eloka and Nwamaka are still at large.
The Imo State Police Public Relations Officer, Henry Okoye, confirmed the arrest of the two suspects and assured the public that the Commissioner of Police had ordered a thorough investigation into the incident. He emphasized that the police are committed to bringing all those involved to justice.
