Clarification from Nigerian Correctional Service: Ayomide Adeleye, the Self-Confessed LASU Student Killer, Remains in Custody
The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has refuted reports suggesting that Ayomide Adeleye, the 23-year-old awaiting trial for the alleged murder of Christianah Idowu, is no longer in custody.
In a statement issued on January 6, 2025, NCoS spokesperson Umar Abubakar clarified that Adeleye remains detained at the Maximum Security Custodial Centre, Kirikiri, Lagos.
He was remanded on September 26, 2024, by Magistrate Court 13A, Ogba, Lagos State, on charges of kidnapping and murder. The presiding magistrate reaffirmed his remand on December 16, 2024, pending advice from the Department of Public Prosecution.
Abubakar attributed the confusion to a mix-up involving a different inmate with a similar name, who was discharged on April 4, 2024, following a court order.
He emphasized that the reports alleging Adeleye’s release are misleading and urged media outlets to verify information from credible sources before publication.
