Ondo Cult Violence: A Mother and Her Baby Among Those Lost, Including an APC Leader
On January 6, 2025, a violent clash between rival cult groups in Owo, Ondo State, resulted in the deaths of five individuals, including a prominent All Progressives Congress (APC) leader, Fisayo Oladipupo, his mother, and child.
The violence erupted in the early hours, beginning with the fatal shooting of Oladipupo, a former youth leader of the APC in the area. This incident is believed to be linked to a long-standing feud that has plagued the community for over a decade.
In the aftermath, suspected cultists, believed to be loyal to the slain APC chieftain, retaliated, resulting in the deaths of four other individuals. Two of these deaths were attributed to stray bullets.
The incident has plunged the community into mourning and sparked widespread concern among residents and party members. Authorities are investigating the matter, and it is hoped that the perpetrators will be brought to justice soon.
This tragic event underscores the ongoing challenges of cult-related violence in certain regions of Nigeria and highlights the need for sustained efforts to address the root causes of such conflicts.
