Heroic Nigerian Officer Turns Down Bribe, Finds Faith in Islam
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Daniel Amah, renowned for his integrity in rejecting a $200,000 bribe in 2022, has recently converted to Islam. The conversion ceremony took place at the palace of the Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II, where Amah adopted the name Muhammad.
During the ceremony, Emir Sanusi II encouraged Amah to deepen his understanding of Islamic teachings and to observe the five pillars of Islam: belief in Allah, daily prayers, fasting during Ramadan, pilgrimage to Mecca, and charitable giving (Zakat). The Emir also advised Amah to maintain his commendable character and to remain respectful and obedient to his parents, regardless of their religious beliefs.
Amah’s initial recognition came as the Divisional Police Officer in Nasarawa Local Government Area of Kano State, where he declined a substantial bribe from armed robbery suspects involved in the theft of over N300 million.
In acknowledgment of his unwavering integrity, the Police Service Commission promoted him from Chief Superintendent of Police to Assistant Commissioner of Police in November 2022. Additionally, former President Muhammadu Buhari honored him with the 2022 Public Service Integrity Award.
