Kafilat Almaruf Faces Three-Year Ban from Paralympics for Doping Infraction
The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) has imposed a three-year ban on Nigerian para powerlifter Kafilat Almaruf for an anti-doping rule violation.
An out-of-competition urine sample collected on 11 July 2024 tested positive for an exogenous anabolic agent, a substance prohibited at all times under the World Anti-Doping Agency’s 2024 Prohibited List.
Following the adverse analytical finding, Almaruf was provisionally suspended on 19 August 2024. She accepted the violation and the proposed consequences, resulting in a ban effective from 19 August 2024 to 18 August 2027.
Additionally, all results obtained between 11 July 2024 and 19 August 2024 have been disqualified, including forfeiture of any medals, points, and prizes.
This sanction underscores the IPC’s commitment to maintaining a doping-free sporting environment and upholding the integrity of para sports.
