Major Shake-Up: Police Dismissals and Demotions Over Corruption

The Nigerian Police Force has dismissed two senior officers and demoted six others following allegations and findings of corruption.

The action comes as part of the force’s ongoing efforts to address misconduct within its ranks and restore public trust in law enforcement.

According to official statements, the dismissed officers were found guilty of serious corruption-related offenses after a thorough investigation.

The six officers who had their ranks reduced were similarly implicated in unethical practices, though their offenses were deemed less severe. The disciplinary measures were implemented following internal reviews by the Force Disciplinary Committee.

Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has reiterated the force’s commitment to weeding out bad elements from the police and upholding the principles of accountability, integrity, and professionalism.

The move has been praised by many as a step in the right direction, although some have called for even stricter measures to deter future misconduct.
