Rivers PDP Leadership Shakeup: Court Removes Pro-Wike Chairman
A Rivers State High Court in Port Harcourt has nullified the ward, local government, and state congresses of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) conducted in July 2024, effectively removing Chukwuemeka Aaron from his position as the state chairman.
Presiding Judge Stephen Jumbo issued the ruling, which also restrains Aaron and other affected officials from acting as executives of the party.
This decision follows a similar judgment last year that nullified the congresses of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, leading to the removal of Chief Tony Okocha as the state chairman.
The court’s ruling is seen as a setback for the faction of the PDP in Rivers State aligned with Nyesom Wike, the current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and former governor of the state.
The nullification of the congresses raises questions about the legitimacy of the current PDP leadership in Rivers State and may lead to internal restructuring within the party.
As of now, there has been no official response from the PDP at the national level or from Nyesom Wike regarding the court’s decision.
