New Alaafin Receives Staff and Certificate of Office from Governor Makinde
On January 13, 2025, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde officially presented the Staff of Office and certificate of appointment to the newly appointed Alaafin of Oyo, Oba AbĂmbola Owoade. The ceremony took place at the Oyo State Government House in Agodi, Ibadan.
Oba Owoade ascends the throne as the 46th Alaafin, succeeding the late Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III, who reigned for five decades.
The presentation of the Staff of Office signifies the formal recognition of Oba Owoade’s authority and responsibilities as the traditional ruler of the Oyo Kingdom.
During the ceremony, Governor Makinde emphasized the importance of integrity in the selection process, warning that any chiefs or kingmakers found guilty of accepting bribes during the selection of the new Alaafin would face prosecution.
The event was attended by dignitaries, including traditional leaders, government officials, and members of the Oyo State community, all gathered to witness the commencement of Oba Owoade’s reign.
