Martin Zubimendi Joins Arsenal: What the £51m Deal Means for the Gunners’ Midfield
Arsenal have reportedly reached an agreement to sign Spanish midfielder Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad for £51 million, with the transfer set to be finalized in the summer of 2025.
Zubimendi, 25, has been a standout performer for Real Sociedad and the Spanish national team, contributing to Spain’s Euro 2024 victory.
His consistent performances have attracted interest from several top Premier League clubs, including Liverpool and Manchester City. However, Arsenal have moved swiftly to secure his services by agreeing to pay his release clause.
While Arsenal initially aimed to bring Zubimendi to the Emirates Stadium during the January transfer window, Real Sociedad insisted on retaining the midfielder until the end of the current season. Consequently, Zubimendi will join the Gunners in the summer, bolstering Mikel Arteta’s midfield options ahead of the 2025/2026 campaign.
This acquisition is part of Arsenal’s strategy to strengthen their squad, especially with the contracts of current midfielders Jorginho and Thomas Partey set to expire in June.
Zubimendi’s arrival is expected to add depth and quality to the team’s midfield, complementing recent signing Mikel Merino, who also joined from Real Sociedad.
