Lagos Tragedy: Vigilante Murdered, Colleague Abducted by Suspected Kidnappers
In the early hours of January 13, 2025, suspected kidnappers attacked the Igbe community in Ikorodu, Lagos State. During the incident, they fatally shot a member of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria, identified as Kayode Goriola, and abducted his colleague.
The assailants reportedly entered the community through a swampy area and encountered Goriola and his fellow vigilante during their patrol.
When the vigilantes attempted to confront the kidnappers, Goriola was shot in the head, leading to his death, while his colleague was forcibly taken away.
This incident marks the fourth kidnapping occurrence in the Igbe community, with previous attacks involving the abduction of residents and the killing of security personnel.
The community has been grappling with a series of kidnappings, including a recent case in mid-December when a former female footballer and her friend were kidnapped at Igbe Oloja and released after a ransom payment.
Local authorities, including the Joint Security Taskforce (JTF) and the Ijede Police Command, have been informed of the latest incident. As of the latest reports, the kidnappers have not made any ransom demands.
