The Arrest of Simon Ekpa: A Turning Point in South-East Nigeria’s Tension, Says CDS Musa
The arrest of Simon Ekpa, a prominent figure in the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has significantly reduced tensions in Nigeria’s South-East region, according to Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Christopher Musa.
Ekpa, a dual Finnish-Nigerian citizen, was detained in Finland in November 2024 on suspicion of inciting violence and financing terrorism in Nigeria’s South-East.
General Musa noted that Ekpa’s arrest, combined with initiatives like Operation Udoka, has been instrumental in restoring peace to the region.
The Nigerian government is currently seeking Ekpa’s extradition to face charges related to his alleged involvement in promoting violence and terrorism.
