Steps to Efficiently Implement NIN Registration in Prisons
The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has granted the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) a license to register inmates across its 256 custodial centers for National Identity Numbers (NIN).
This initiative aims to integrate inmates into national development plans, enhance their safety and security, and facilitate their recapture in the event of jailbreaks.
The Acting Controller-General of NCoS, Sylvester Nwakuche, emphasized that many inmates have achieved significant educational milestones, including university degrees, master’s degrees, and doctorates. He stated that such individuals should be included in national development efforts to become valuable contributors to society.
NIMC’s Director-General, Abisoye Coker-Odusote, highlighted the critical role of NIN in national development plans, noting its integration with banking systems and its importance in initiatives like student loans to prevent duplicity and ensure transparency. She expressed support for the collaboration, aiming to facilitate the NCoS in effectively carrying out its mandate.
