Spotlight on Drake’s Withdrawal of Lawsuit Accusing Spotify, Universal of Boosting Kendrick Lamar
Drake has withdrawn his legal petitions against Universal Music Group (UMG) and Spotify, which alleged that they artificially inflated streams of Kendrick Lamar’s diss track “Not Like Us.” The petitions, filed in November 2024, accused UMG and Spotify of using bots and other tactics to boost the song’s popularity.
On January 14, 2025, Drake’s legal team filed to discontinue the proceedings after meeting with representatives from UMG and Spotify. The filing stated: “Petitioner hereby voluntarily discontinues this special proceeding as to all Respondents without costs to any party.”
Spotify had previously denied the allegations, calling them “far-fetched” and stating there was no evidence to support claims of streaming manipulation.
The feud between Drake and Kendrick Lamar has been ongoing, with both artists releasing diss tracks targeting each other throughout 2024. Lamar’s “Not Like Us” accused Drake of serious allegations, leading to a series of musical exchanges and public disputes.
