Niger Road Accident: Remembering the Eight Farmers Lost
A tragic road accident occurred on Monday evening, January 13, 2025, on the Batati/Lanle Road in Niger State, resulting in the deaths of eight farmers. The incident involved a head-on collision between a Toyota Corolla and a tanker trailer.
The victims, who had relocated from Niger Zone B to Dasu village in Lavun Local Government Area due to insecurity, were en route to their farming activities when the accident occurred.
Eyewitnesses described the scene as harrowing, with the bodies of the victims crushed beyond recognition.
The Assistant Commander of the Road Transport Employers’ Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), Kutigi Branch, Mohammed Sanusi, expressed his shock and sorrow over the incident, highlighting the need for caution regarding overspeeding and reckless overtaking on the roads.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) responded promptly to the scene, with personnel from the FRSC, the Red Cross, and RTEAN assisting in evacuating the bodies. The victims were subsequently buried in Dasu village on Tuesday.
