Underage Sex Trafficking Halted: Anambra Shuts Down Infamous Brothel
The Anambra State government has intensified its efforts to combat child prostitution and related criminal activities within the state. In a recent operation, a brothel in Amawbia was raided, leading to the rescue of 12 girls, including three minors trafficked from other states.
The Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Mrs. Ify Obinabo, emphasized the government’s commitment to eradicating child kidnapping, trafficking, and sexual slavery. She warned brothel operators against employing underage girls, stating that violators would face legal consequences.
This incident is part of a broader crackdown on establishments exploiting minors. In a separate raid, the police rescued 20 underage girls from a brothel in Anambra State.
The victims revealed that they were lured with promises of legitimate employment, only to have their belongings confiscated and forced into prostitution. They reported being compelled to earn daily targets, with severe repercussions for non-compliance.
