Ogun Security Guard Detained: Accusations of Company Property Theft
A 59-year-old security guard, Olaitan Matthew, was arrested by the Onipanu Division of the Ogun State Police Command for allegedly stealing electric motor parts from Land Star Company, where he was employed.
The arrest occurred around 4:30 a.m. on January 15, 2025, after officers found him in possession of the stolen items during a routine patrol. Upon questioning, Matthew confessed to taking the parts during a temporary halt in the company’s production.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the arrest and stated that efforts are ongoing to recover other items Matthew may have stolen from the company.
This incident is part of a broader pattern of security personnel in Nigeria being implicated in thefts from their places of employment.
For instance, in September 2024, a security guard named Samuel Paul was arrested in Ogun State for collaborating with burglars to steal properties worth ₦2 million from his employer’s residence.
Similarly, in December 2023, the Ogun State So-Safe Corps dismissed an officer, Yusuf Adeboye, for stealing items from the residence he was assigned to protect in Abeokuta.
