Stay and Build: Jonathan’s Message to Nigerians Eyeing Japa
Former President Goodluck Jonathan has appealed to Nigerians to remain committed to nation-building and to resist the urge to migrate, commonly referred to as “Japa.” He emphasized that the countries Nigerians often consider relocating to were developed by their citizens, and Nigeria can achieve similar progress through collective effort.
Jonathan stated, “You don’t need to Japa. Those countries you are running to were built by people. We must build this country together, and invest in it so that the youths can get jobs. We must not run away from our responsibilities. This country belongs to all of us, and we must not abandon it.”
He further encouraged Nigerians to focus on the opportunities within the country rather than the challenges, highlighting the importance of unity and collective responsibility in achieving national development.
This call to action underscores the need for Nigerians to actively participate in the nation’s growth and to invest in its future, rather than seeking solutions abroad.
