Internet Fraud Uncovered: Police Arrest 12 Involving Corps Members and Students
On January 15, 2025, the Police Special Fraud Unit (PSFU) in Lagos State arrested 14 individuals in the Sapaade area of Ogun State for alleged involvement in internet fraud.
The suspects include four serving members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), eight students from Gateway Polytechnic, and two others who identified themselves as an artist and a cobbler.
Following the arrests, leaders from various student unions, including the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) and the National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS), met with the Commissioner of Police, Godwin Omodeinde, on January 16, 2025.
The meeting aimed to discuss the circumstances of the arrests and to foster collaboration between the student bodies and law enforcement. Commissioner Omodeinde emphasized the importance of student unions in safeguarding their members’ welfare while also urging them to cooperate with the police in addressing cybercrime issues.
