Greenland’s Leader Rejects Trump’s Remarks: A Firm Stance on Independence
Greenland’s Prime Minister, Múte Egede, has firmly responded to U.S. President Donald Trump’s renewed interest in acquiring Greenland, stating, “We do not want to be Americans.”
This declaration underscores Greenland’s commitment to its autonomy and the right of its people to determine their own future.
President Trump has emphasized the strategic importance of Greenland, asserting that U.S. control over the territory is essential for international security.
Despite this, both Greenland and Denmark have consistently maintained that the island is not for sale. Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen reiterated this stance, emphasizing that Greenland’s future is for its people to decide.
While rejecting the notion of a U.S. takeover, Prime Minister Egede has expressed openness to strengthening defense and trade relations with the United States, particularly in areas like the mining sector, given Greenland’s abundant mineral resources and strategic location.
However, he emphasized that any decisions regarding Greenland’s future rest solely with its people.
