Fatal Train Incident in India: 11 Passengers Dead
On January 22, 2025, a tragic incident occurred in Maharashtra, India, resulting in the deaths of at least 12 train passengers.
The passengers were traveling on the Pushpak Express when a rumor of a fire sparked panic, leading them to pull the emergency chain and disembark onto adjacent tracks near Pardhade railway station. Tragically, they were struck by the passing Karnataka Express on the neighboring track.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the panic was caused by sparks inside one of the coaches, possibly due to a ‘hot axle’ or ‘brake-binding.’
This incident highlights the ongoing safety challenges within India’s extensive railway network. Despite government efforts to modernize the system, including initiatives led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accidents continue to occur, underscoring the need for further improvements in infrastructure and passenger safety protocols.
