28kg Drug Import: Woman and Two Others Arraigned by NDLEA
On January 21, 2025, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) arraigned Oluwakemi Akala, Onyekachi Aguguo, and Tsolaye Eburajolo before the Federal High Court in Lagos for allegedly importing 28 kilograms of Cannabis Indica.
The prosecution presented two counts against the defendants: conspiracy and unlawful importation of narcotics. The alleged offenses occurred on October 22, 2024, at a warehouse on Classic 1 Terminal, Ago Palace Way, Okota, Lagos. The defendants reportedly concealed the drugs inside a 2010 Lexus RX350 with VIN JTJHK31U672011774.
All three defendants pleaded not guilty. Justice Ayokunle Faji granted each bail at N8 million, with two sureties in like sum. One surety must be a blood relative, providing evidence of residence, identification, Bank Verification Number (BVN), contact information, utility bills, and proof of livelihood.
The other must present a bank statement demonstrating the ability to pay the bail sum if necessary, along with a three-year tax clearance certificate.
The defendants are to submit their travel documents, BVN, and National Identity Card numbers, and must not travel abroad without court permission during the trial. They will remain in custody until bail conditions are met. The trial is scheduled for March 24 and 25, 2025.
