Tennessee High School Shooting: Student Turns Gun on Peers and Himself
On January 22, 2025, a tragic shooting occurred at Antioch High School in Nashville, Tennessee. Seventeen-year-old student Solomon Henderson opened fire in the school cafeteria, fatally wounding 16-year-old classmate Josselin Corea Escalante and injuring another student with a graze wound. Following the attack, Henderson turned the gun on himself, resulting in his death.
The incident took place around 11:09 a.m., prompting an immediate lockdown of the school. Two school resource officers were present on campus but were not in the vicinity of the cafeteria when the shooting occurred. Emergency responders swiftly arrived at the scene, and the injured student was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center for treatment.
Authorities have not yet disclosed a motive for the shooting. The Metro Nashville Police Department is leading the investigation, with assistance from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives. Parents were directed to a reunification site to safely reconnect with their children.
